Is Nausea a sign of liver issues
Hi all
I have not posted here for quite some time, I post a lot on bcorg, but always read here and you are all helpful, I am having a difficult time with symptoms lately and not in a good place mentally. I have had ongoing nausea for 5 days not getting better. It feel like a stomach but but not resolving, my SOn was home for 3 days with similar symptoms but went away. I am scared even thought it is very logical to think stomach virus like son. The worry is that it is not going away, and it should be. I am 2 and a half years out from triple positive dx, full chemo, Hercepin, etc. Stage 1/no nodes.
Tha nausea is my only symptom, the only other thing I can say is that I suffer from some neutropenia after tx so may be harder to fight things, but my Docs are never concerned by this.
I would love to know that I should not be thinking liver mets first with just nausea as symptom.
Thanks for any feedback.

Re: Is Nausea a sign of liver issues
Usually there are a lot more symptoms of liver mets such as bloating, pain on the upper right side, perhaps yellowing of the skin or eyes, sometimes even pain in the right back shoulder blade.
You may have gotten what your son had and it is taking longer to subside (because you already state you have neutropenia issues) and the fact that you are also worried about it and that is also contributing (stress does alot to us).
Try to relax. Baby yourself and eat a bland diet - no spicy foods or hard to digest foods. Are you constipated? Remember the 2-3 week rule - if it doesn't go away then you have to get it checked out but I think if you do some relaxing (tub baths, reading trash magazines or whatever you like) things and eat bland, you will see it will go away.
It is always scary to get something that can be interpreted as a symptom but we all get naturally sick or get aches and pains. Unfortunately, we have to just wait it out and see. I think yours will just go away.

Thanks so much Becky! I appreciate your reply!
Do you if it is normal for many that have been through TCH to still struggle with low neutrophils?

Re: Is Nausea a sign of liver issues
I had AC followed by Taxol and then I had Herceptin. My neutrophils bounced back ok but my red blood cells are still just below the lowest level of normal.
My husband, who never had cancer or chemo and is the fittest/healtiest person I know has a low neutrophil count. Not real low but just below normal. He doesn't get sick often but when he does, he's bad (and men take being sick badly anyway)!
I think everyone is different when bouncing back and you never know what your counts were before - I don't. Maybe my red count was always just below normal as my husband's neutrophils are just below normal.
Maybe you are in our crowd - the just below normal crowd and its what's normal for you.

Re: Is Nausea a sign of liver issues
Hi MMM -
Becky is probably right, but there is one thing I would not overlook, especially if you still feel quesy after this weekend.
I have had both raging liver mets and brain mets. I did not have nausea or quesy feeling as a symptom with either kind of mets. So, I wonder if you have had a brain MRI in the last 6 months?
Each of us may have some of the same symptoms with either kind of mets, but I only had the pain in right side with the liver involvement and NO symptoms of the brain mets. My routine annual check of my brain showed - surprise of surprises - 2 lesions. That was 5 years ago and all has been well since that time.
Many of the ladies who have brain mets here report having some nausea, so that always come to my mind. It is a big relief when the scan is negative.
