Anyone knows the bone density med Boniva equal to Zometa?

I am on A.I. Femara and have bone density loss. I was on weekly bone density med but suffered gastronomic problem. Now I am on Boniva taking monthly. Recent posts indicate that Zometa has the extraordinary benefit of preventing metastasis, beside of preventing bone loss. Do anyone have data or experience that Boniva can act the same as Zometa? Zometa is used by injection, am I right? I am tempted to ask my doctor to switch to Zometa.

I had been on Boniva, but started Zometa in Jan 07. My bone density test showed improvement on Zometa, rather than decrease. There are two other recent threads on this. You can find by doing a seach on "Zometa". Hope this helps.

I am a drug rep that sells Boniva. We also have an injectable as well. There are no head to head studies with Boniva Vs Zometa. Zometa is also used for osteoperosis under the name "Reclast".

Studies show that the more drug you take, the better your BMD. Pills are not absorbed into the system with this class of drugs as well as injection. The Zometa dosage for Bone mets is more than the "Reclast" dosage for osteoperosis. Plus, studies show that Zometa can help prevent mets. Even though I think Boniva would work in prevention of mets, it has not been studied. I would see if you could get zometa if your insurance will pay for it. If your Dr. puts breast ca (174.4?) as a diagnosis, it should not be a problem.
