Does tamoxifen cause high blood pressure?

Just wondered if anyone knew whether tamoxifen is responsible for elevated blood pressure. My GP says no and there is nothing in the leaflet to indicate this is a side effect.

It is just that mine is considerably higher than it was two years ago (when it was last measured, before I started this drug).

Re: Does tamoxifen cause high blood pressure?

My blood pressure went up measurably... from my normal low of 96/60 or 110/68 to commonly 123/80, 138/90, 155/110 ... erratic. After a full blood panel & urinalysis (all normal), the only culprit left, I fear, is tamoxifen. But I "only" have 3 1/2 more yrs on it. Pick your poison.

Re: Does tamoxifen cause high blood pressure?

After chemo I began Tamoxifen and then switched to Femara. I noticed my BP rising all during chemo and it continued to remain elevated. My onc wanted me to start on BP meds, but instead I researched high BP on the net and found that iodine insufficiency can cause it to be elevated. I began taking a kelp supplement once daily. In amazement I watched my BP slip back down to its normal range. I continue to take the supplement. I only costs about $3 or less for a 2 month supply. Can't beat that with a stick!

Good luck!

Re: Does tamoxifen cause high blood pressure?

Although I didn't notice a BP rise, I got an ooph and went on Arimidex for many reasons but one reason was that I felt like I was going blind on Tamoxifen.

Re: Does tamoxifen cause high blood pressure?

Hi mcgle,

The only changes with tamoxifen for me for the 1 3/4 years I was on it were the immediate reduction in breast density (resulting in sagging breasts but clearer mammograms) and the hot flashes. My BP was higher, not due to the tamoxifen but due to the weight gain from the use of steroids with chemotherapy. I stopped it because of the reported increase in recurrence for a percentage of HER2 positives using tamoxifen.
