Anyone familiar with this Dr. claiming cures?

Breakthrough Breast Cancer Therapy from Europe

<TABLE class=arial12 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=1 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=pressbody colSpan=2>The European oncological community is in an uproar. One of their senior members from Italy, Fabrizio Taliano MD, Ph.D.,
is introducing ideas about breast cancer treatment that contradict everything taught in medical schools. Dr. Taliano analyzes
the standard treatment protocols, and comes to the conclusion that they are nothing but instruments for corporate profit.

He finds the policy governing oncological practice "brilliant, profitable, and ruthless" . Not surprisingly, his views are becoming
the center of a fast spreading global medical controversy.

What separates Dr. Taliano from former critics of oncology is that he has developed a number of benign, non-toxic,
and highly effective therapeutic methods for dealing with breast cancer. His treatments seem to work, without causing any harmful side effects.
They are also inexpensive and simple. The old conventional argument, "yes, we know that the treatment is toxic, but it is still the only one available" doesn't hold anymore. The Taliano protocols are not only available, they are more effective than the standard ones, and completely benign.

The well-known cancer support group, Women for Breast Cancer Truth, dedicates a whole new website to Dr. Taliano's lectures, papers
and treatment protocols. The website can be found at www.breastcancer-cured.com . According to the group's director, Julia Dwyer Ph. D.,
"it is time for women to wake up from this nightmare, and take control of our health" .

For more information, contact Dr. Julia Dwyer at wbct@breastcancer-cured.com, or visit www.breastcancer-cured.com .

I googled Dr. Taliano, and there's not much on him aside from the website you mentioned and a couple of press releases. It's $97 to access the reports that detail his protocol. Anytime someone charges for something like that, I'm suspicious.

anyone wanting to believe in conspiracy theories should only

refer back to an old post of mine...

Gripping tale of an oncologist's own experience with breast cancer
http://www.breastcancerupdate.com/do...2005/7/default.

I encourage everyone to listen to the story of Dr.Juliann Smith. I met her at a breast cancer conference we both were attending. The remarkable thing about her was not only that she was a breast cancer patient and an oncologist herself, but that she was utilizing oxygen...

She explains why in her gripping tale of her own experience with cancer in her own words.^^^^^^^^^^^

As far as I am aware, this oncologist is still practiciing and I am certain she could/would not do so
if any of the claims of this Italian doctor boasts were true.

Here's the link; it's a summary of her case, then if you want to hear the whole story you should click on "Audio File" in the box to the right of the text, then scroll down to the bottom of the page that opens where you can then download the whole file or click on the individual chapters to listen:

Looks dubious

There is not a single article in Pubmed by this supposed leading Italian oncologist, not even a case study write up.

Eric.

I did, however, find it interesting the site refers to the expansion of Dr. Otto Warburg's work. For those not familiar he won a Nobel Prize in 1931
in science for his discovery that cancer cells rapidly proliferated in the presence of fermented sugar. (Ironically, so do fungal cells!)

Dr. Otto Warburg (Nobel Prize Winner) found that simply reducing the oxygen supply to normal healthy tissue, it became cancerous. What he was really experiencing was that fungal spores, hidden in most living tissue, were able to grow aneorobically, becoming the dominant life form. Normal healthy tissue needs oxygen to live and grow, cancer and fungus cells can use sugar as their primary source of energy for growth, this is called anaerobic respiration or fermentation.

http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/medicine/laureates/1931/warburg-bio.html

For his discovery of the nature and mode of action of the respiratory enzyme, the Nobel Prize has been awarded to him in 1931. This discovery has opened up new ways in the fields of cellular metabolism and cellular respiration. He has shown, among other things, that cancerous cells can live and develop, even in the absence of oxygen.

Cancer hypothesis

Main article: Warburg hypothesis

In 1924, Warburg hypothesized that cancer, malignant growth, and tumor growth are caused by the fact that tumor cells mainly generate energy (as e.g. adenosine triphosphate / ATP) by non-oxidative breakdown of glucose (a process called glycolysis). This is in contrast to "healthy" cells which mainly generate energy from oxidative breakdown of pyruvate. Pyruvate is an end-product of glycolysis, and is oxidized within the mitochondria. Hence and according to Warburg, cancer should be interpreted as a mitochondrial dysfunction.
"Cancer, above all other diseases, has countless secondary causes. But, even for cancer, there is only one prime cause. Summarized in a few words, the prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar." -- Dr. Otto H. Warburg in Lecture [7]
Warburg continued to develop the hypothesis experimentally, and held several prominent lectures outlining the theory and the data.[8]
The concept that cancer cells switch to glycolysis has become widely accepted, even if it is not seen as the cause of cancer. Some suggest that the Warburg phenomenon could be used to develop anticancer drugs.[9] Indeed is the basis of positron emission tomography (18-FDG PET), a medical imaging technology that relies on this phenomenon.[10][9]

Websites like that piss me off as someone is looking to profit off of cancer patient's desperation.

I am extremely grateful for the medical care that Ruth as received. I feel so lucky that she was diagnosed in this day and age.

HOWEVER...I still maintain that American medicine is too often driven by pharmeceutical profit and a certain close-mindedness to change. (Read the Herceptin book which shows this quite clearly) It is entirely possible that there are substantial natural and less toxic remedies (read all the women doing fish oil, flax, Olive oil, etc here on this site) and there simply hasn't' been enough rearch to find them/prove them.

While hasn't there been at the least "real people" synergy studies ? Because there is not the corporate profit driving the bottom line.

TSund, I agree. I do feel that our system is the best in the world but it is not without it's flaws. The biggest being the selfish motives of the very companies that we depend on to save our lives. While I do believe that something as simple as foods or supplements will be proven to have big impacts, fear of the unknown has kept me from pushing Caryn to do anything. For that I live with constant doubt. My fear has paralyzed me as I've chose the safe and proven direction driven by the medical community. It's not that I think they know better, it's more a fear of effects that I don't know or have not yet been found. I too wish closer looks would be taken without any care of profit. Profits are driven by people and when I last checked, cancer is not selective in who it targets!
