I have a question

I was at work today and I felt like I was losing my mind. I am being trained in my position and I feel I pretty much know how to do my job, however as I was taking a call and moving thru my screens on the computer I totally forgot how to do what I was just shown 5min earlier and what I learned in the past two weeks, i felt discombobulated, like a fog came over my brain. The girl who was coaching me asked me what was wrong and I told her it was the effects of chemo (chemobrain). So I call my onc office and left her a message, her nurse gets back with me explaining to me that it will pass( so casually) as if I am making a fuss about nothing. I explained to her about the drug I seen mentioned on here and she said she would let the doctor know, but in the mean time there was nothing they could do. Is is just me or does anyone else feel like this. I hate it because I wasn't this scattered brained before, I deal with peoples money and I can't afford to be scattered brained.
Sorry just frustrated!!! Anyway I told them about this drug and we will see what she says tomorrow since my last message was left after hours on her vm.
Thanks for listening ladies..I know someone out there will understand...

Hi Theresa,

There's hope. Studies I've read said full function returns after 2 years. I know after finishing Taxol I felt like 80% of the fog evaporated leaving only a few deficits like word, name and what I had for lunch recall.

It gets better. I hope your company can be patient for awhile.
I think you can also compensate by writing more things down. Maybe you can ask someone to check your work to protect the clients.

Also check out Andi's (ABB) post about a supplement. We might have to work a little harder, but I believe any of us who has been thru this brings a lot to any project. We are wise. Use your wisdom. Bev

Hi Teresa,
Yep, sounds like chemobrain - and it will get better but it will take some time. For me, I occasionally still "lose" a word and have to go searching for it. The good news is they are actually now acknowledging that it is real and beginning to look for solutions.
Oh, by the way, I'm really impressed with your spelling of discombobulated!

In my job I deal with financial matters also, and I really had to check and double check everything I did during and after chemo. The suggestion to write everything down is a good one. I'm two years out from dx now and feel like I am finally getting back to "normal". Chemo brian is not as bad, but i do occasionally lose a word and have problems with people's names sometimes. Usually if I just stop and think hard, it will come to me.

Hang in there and thing will get better.
