Why is my hair growing now?

When I had my first cycle of herceptin, Taxotere, & Carbpotin with weekly herceptin...my hair fell out about 18 days later I think it was? (Close enough) Then I had my second cycle of the same drugs...and my hair has been growing. I haven't been buzzing it off on purpose to see when it would start falling out again?

Now I am on the third cycle of these drugs and so far my hair is still growing. Is that normal? Or will it slowly fall out again. Just curious. It sure came out the first timel..don't know why it wouldn't now?

Hi Chelee,

I do not know about Carbpotin but my hair started growing when I was on Taxol & Herceptin and my chemo nurses said that many of their patient's hair will grow when on Taxol

Same thing happened to me -- hair started to grow somewhat but eyebrows and eyelashes fell out. The hair on my head grew but it was very thin, unhealthy and stopped when it reached about 1/2 inch in length.

I noticed all of you mentioned "Taxol" verses Taxotere that I am on. I wonder if they are pretty much the same? I just thought it was strange it would fall out the first round of chemo...but continue to grow through round two and three chemo.

Sue, maybe I will get fooled. After reading your post...I am starting to wonder if my hair will just stay as it is now. About 3/4 inch long and stop there. I just *assumed* it is going to keep growing. But maybe this is it.

You guys mentioned your eyebrows and lashes falling out. That was a concern of mine...and so far...knock on wood....those are both fine. But maybe there is a slight difference in the Taxotere I am on...verses the Taxol you all are on?

Well...time will tell I guess. I have noticed my eyebrows are much thinner..thats for sure. Thanks everyone.

My hair fell out 2 weeks after starting A/C. Completed 4 rounds and now am on Taxatore. My eyebrows and eyelashes fell out before I started the Taxatore. Right now my eyelashes ae beginning to come back. Guess everyone is different.

Elmer Fudd vs. Gunther from "Friends"

My hair started falling out right before my 2nd AC treatment. It kept on going & going (LOL) & going until there was hardly anything left.
I finally had the nerve to shave off the rest around my last AC treatment.
When I started Herceptin/taxol, my eybrows & eyelashes fell out, but the hair on my head started growing.
At first, I thought that I didn't shave it close enough, so I shaved it again.
Then I noticed that it was there again!
Around the 6th combo treatment, my eyebrows & eyelashes started coming back (geez, just when I was getting the hang of using an eyebrow pencil & liner! lol) Still using it, tho'.
I just finished my #11 of 12 Herceptin/Taxol combo & I have about 1/2 inch of blonde (white?) mixed with grey hair.
I kind of look like Gunther from "Friends"! (but with a little shorter hair)
I am lucky to have it growing back very soft & straight instead of coarse & curly like alot of people on this site.
I hope it keeps growing. Maybe I can throw away my wig by next Christmas!
When I am finally able to throw away (donate) my wigs, can I start coloring my hair again? Has anyone here done that with no problem?

You will be able to not wear a wig by September (if not earlier - I promise). My last Taxol was Feb 1 2005 and I stopped wearing my wig by Memorial Day weekend. I went to my hair dresser who trimmed it up into an "Art Gallery Owner" type style (very short) and I dyed it myself "light natural brown" from a box (it came in much greyer than before and was too much grey for me). Lots of people who work in my building and saw me in the bathroom with my wig on (but didn't know it was a wig and didn't know me) loved my short do and said they wished they could be so brave (to cut their hair so short - little did they know how brave we are). So.... be patient but the warm weather will encourage the wig removal. That's why I made a vow to get rid of mine by the summer.

Kind regards

Becky

Thanks Becky for your words of encouragement.
Gee, maybe 4th of July will be more of a freedom celebration than I planned!
I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Thanks!
