Regarding alternatives, please be careful. My good friend passed away two weeks ago from lung cancer. She opted for alternative treatment which included four coffee enemas a day; two times a day in a dry sauna she purchased for her home; raw liver milkshakes and a million restrictions as to what could be included in the rest of the diet; a very demanding regimen of pills pills pills; and devices that shook her foot, emitted certain rays, etc. All this was very expensive, time-consuming, not pleasant. In order to be "successful" in this protocol, she had to maintain it exactly as instructed. As she began to lose considerable weight and strength, she became bedridden and obviously could not keep up the necessary treatment schedule. Therefore, she "failed" and the perpetrators of this scam were able to claim that it would have worked except the patient fell off the wagon.
I do still hope that there are examples of positive alternatives.
