Dr Dennis Slamon

Has anyone had a consultation/second opinion with Dr Dennis Slamon? If so, could you share your experience, offer advice, etc.? Thanks.

I believe that Dr. Slamon is primarily a researcher/lecturer now. I do not think he has any patients now, but Joe will know for certain.
Seems that Dr. Mark Pegram is the one people see for opinions - he has worked with Dr. Slamon for years and years.

Dr. Slamon does not consult anymore. If you phone his office, you will be referred, usually to Dr. Mark Pegram.

I have consulted Dr. Mark Pegram regularly for 2nd opionions for 2 years now. I have an appt with him next week, to discuss my recent bout with brain mets.

I have complete trust in him and his abilities, he is known as one of the top BC researchers, and he worked with Dr. Slaman on the development of herceptin.

I highly recommend a consult with Dr. Pegram.

To Esther

Who is your regular doctor if you see Dr. Pegram for second opinion consultations? Thanks.

I see Dr. Frank Howard at Loma Linda University Medical Center. I have complete confidence in him as well. I credit him with saving my life in early 2004, when my liver mets were causing my liver to shut down.

His creative use of Navelbine,Xeloda and Herceptin, which at that point in time was not a commonly heard of combo, had my liver enzymes in the normal range within 2 months.

I just like having another top Dr. to consult with and get another perspective.
