Question lenth of time for Herceptin treatment?

I am confused, it seems like lots of people are having ongoing herceptin treatments with no end in site. I have read recently that they are testing short term treatments with sucess. My Oncologist has me on 1 year every 3 weeks. (4 treatments so far) What is the proper treatment or is it all up in the air? Thanks~

If you are Stage "4" you are on it indefinately...

but if you are an earlier stage you are "typically" on it for one yr though there are those that may be in the 2 yr HERA trial who will get it for a year (though we don't know at this time if 2 yrs is better than 1) AND there is new research suggesting that 9wks is just as effective as 1 yr (I think Robin may be doing this though I won't swear by it). I am ALSO on it every 3 weeks for 1 yr (will be done 8/06). Good luck, take care and God bless.

I am on it every three weeks until June '06. Rhonda is right about the timing - it depends on whether or not you are using it as an adjuvant or for metastatic (stage 4) disease.

Best regards
