Happy/Sad New Year

First of all, i'd like to wish you all A Happy New Year.

Xmas was very sad for me and my family as we lost our mother on Xmas Day.
She suffered from Huntingtons Disease and though it was a release from this dreadful illness, it hurts so much to lose her.
She never really recognised me when I was dx bc 2001. She was oblivient to the fact it returned 2003, something I am grateful for..!

I will now go for tests to see if I have inherited HD, hopefully not but as I have children and grandchildren, and, this disease doesn't miss a generation...!!!

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers

God Bless
Geraldine

Unhappy So sorry ...

Things are bad enough without final loss of a parent. Seems she has not been herself for some time and perhaps been in her own world - I don't know much about that disease.
Our sympathies are with you.

Where is Coatbridge?? I am learning more about Scotland lately as Scots are in my background. Generally a hardy bunch - I am sure you genes will serve you well and will pray that the Huntington's is not in your line.

Sad/Happy New Year

Geraldine,

What a sad season for you. My condolences on the loss of your mother. It was a blessing in disguise that she did not know about about your diagnosis and therefore did not have to worry about you.

I hope that you get tested soon and that your test results are good so that you have peace of mind.

Best wishes to you and your family for the New Year!

Joan

Thanx StephN for your kind reply.

Coatbridge is quite a large town 12miles east of Glasgow and 33 miles west of Edinburgh.
You are right when you say we're a hardy lot, something that kept my mother fighting for so long and, thank god, has kept me here too.
Maybe one day you will come over and see what a beautiful country some of your family came from..!
Best wishes for 2006
Geraldine

Geraldine, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know alot about Huntington's since i'm a nurse. It truly is a very sad disease, as you know. Have you been tested? I know it can be hereditary. I hope you have and that it is neg. Dying on Christmas Day is sad for us, but just think, going to Heaven on Christmas Day, Wow!!

Hi Michele,
have'nt been tested yet, waiting for an appointment. Hopefully soon.

It is a terrible disease and yes it is hereditary, it does'nt miss a generation. At present I have a 50% chance of having it. If I test negative (hopefully) then none of my children or grandchildren will have it. If I test positive then my 3 children have a 50% chance of having the faulty gene.

Thanx Michele for your thoughts and what a lovely thought you have given me and my family about my mother going to heaven on xmas day.

Hugs to all
Geraldine
