Locks of Love

I finally got my hair cut yesterday. I have not had the courage to shave, just a short cut. I donated a 14" ponytail to Locks of Love. That made it a little easier. I got my wig, so hard to get used to. So far I will not go out without the wig and a hat on. I live in NY so it's cold so I look and feel normal.

Loss of Locks

Tracey,

Don't worry too much about loosing your hair, it will grow back - think of the loss of hair as the chemo doing it's job. It is good that you were able to donate your hair to a good cause. My advice is to enjoy your short hair just for a little while and then take the plunge soon and shave you head, it is so much easier than having to put up with the constant loss of hair. As soon as your treatment finishes, your hair will start to sprout back. My friend took chemo 3 weeks ahead of me and her hair started to grow back even before her last treatment was completed. I finished chemo in October and my hair is coming in just fine and I was happy to welcome it back.
It's a shock getting used to seeing yourself in the mirror with a baldy head, but you will get through it and surprisingly, the time seems to go fast.
Best wishes!
Joan

Good for you!

How wonderful to be able to take something not so good and turn it into a gift for another. Hats off (pun intended) to you!

I bought 2 wigs when I found out I'd lose my hair. Wound up living in a baseball cap the whole time. You do get used to it believe it or not.

And just think of how beautiful Melissa Etheridge looked bald!

God bless you and keep you on your journey!

HI
what a great idea to donate your hair!!
I wore a wig every day, I just felt better, it does take a while to get use to it, but you would be surpirsed how many people didn't even know I was wearing one, they thought I cut my hair when I stopped wearing it , after my hair grew back.
It starts out slow but then before you know it you will have your hair back. The first thing I did is color it because it came back black and grey :-)
take care and God Bless

Hi Tracy,
Like you, I started with a short cut and when my hair started to come out, I phoned my hairdresser, who shaved the lot off. He also shaped my wig to the style i had been wearing, so a lot of people didnt know, which helped a lot.
On the brighter side, there are some fantastic wigs about and you can be a blonde, redhead, brunette or whatever takes your fancy. Even the scarves and bandannas are fab.
I personally found losing my eyebrows and eyelashes was worse but this doesnt happen to everyone. It depends on the chemo.!!
Experiment with wigs, hats etc. and have as much of a laugh as you can.
That was a great idea, donating your hair, Well Done!!
Just remember its only temp., your hair will grow back before you know it.

Good luck to you
Merry Xmas and health to you in 2006
