Marinol for Nausea Anyone?

Has anyone had success using Marinol to control nausea? I am on weekly carboplatin, abraxane and herceptin and find the nausea is pretty bad for the 48-72 hours after infusion. I have been smoking marijuana to control it and it takes the nausea away immediately and lasts for about 2 hours - but I hate the smokey smell and it's not always practical to light up (i.e when the kids are home from school). But it works better for me than compazine. Now my onc suggests I try the marinol and says I will not get the euphoria. I so don't want to take another pill, but if it will work, I'm willing to try it. Anyone having success with this?

Hi Donna,

I have tried Marinol during chemo and it had no effect on me. The only thing that worked was Emend, and that was only given for the first 3 days. I had spoken to my sons pediatric onc ( son had Hodgkins last year)about the nausea I was having and he suggested asking for additional fluids. Seems they give children an additional amount of fluids to help with this. I would go in for chemo on Thursday and by Monday I was back in for fluids and compazine IV. this seemd to be the only thing that got me through. Its worth a try.

Chemo definitely separates the men from the boys!

Linda has taken nabilone for pain, to reduce her reliance on narcotics. My understanding is that it is a THC analogue like marinol. The only problem was when she woke-up in the morning, she was on an inter-galactic voyage! I would take the pot and make cookies....it will last for at least 6 - 8 hours.

When I was still having problems in keeping nausea under control 2 years ago, every anti-nausea med did NOT work for me AT ALL, including Marisol (took only one pill & ditched the whole thing!), except for Emend, which I call it the miracle drug!
