Cardiac risk for early stage herceptin????
So just wandering what the cardiac risk are for Herceptin long term as I am considering late Herceptin for early stage bc. What do we know about the longer term side effects from the metastatic population that has recieved Herceptin? How long have they been taking Herceptin etc. without cardiac problems. Any information to help me fill in this gray area of knowledge would be appreciated

Robin
I have been on Herceptin for 28 months now and no cardiac problems and hopefully no long term side effects...the runny nose, terrible nails and tired for a day seems to be it...oh & some weight gain. Hope this helps.

Generally, if you have no cardiac problems in the first 6 months, you probably never will.
Christine has been on Herceptin 65 months, Ginger Empey has well over 120 months, Philicia Bowman about 75 months. None have hadany long term side effects nor have I read of anyone having negative long term problems. Herceptin has only been approved a little over 6 years now.
Warmest Regards
Joe

Thanks Joe and Sheila, I appreciate the input. So does the metastatic population get about the same dosage and schedule as the early stage, every three week regimen? I appreciate your help here.
Fondly,
Robin

Robin,
Dosage is determined solely by your body weight.

Hi Robin; I've been on Herceptin either weekly or 3 weekly since January 2001, a total of 58 months now. I've had no long term side effects except the runny nose and being tired for a day noted by Sheila. My nails have always been weak, and though I've gained weight in my opinion that's due to eating more, exercising less Good luck!
