help finding a new onc.

I'm looking for a new onc. I live on the cape(Ma.) and can go to Boston if anybody has the name of somebody they trust I would be grateful. My currant Dr. is just too busy and now that I've finished chemo I think that he just doesn't care,also I called the office over a week ago with a question and nobody returned my call. thanks for your help Leslie

Sorry I don't have any names for you; however I hear that Boston General Hospital is just as good as the more famous Dana Farber at Harvard.

I am receiving treatment at MGH. Barbara Smith, MD is the chairperson of the breast cancer center and I was supposed to see her for a consultation but she was on sabitatical at the time. I am currently seeing Beverly Moy, MD and am pleased so far with her. My mother was being treated at the Dana Faber by Erik Winer, MD, after receiving not so good treatment from a suburban hospital (that is now closed). By the time I got her into see Dr. Winer, she unfortunately was Stage IV with mets to bone and needed a hip replacement. She lasted only 4 years with mets, died 2002. My dx was 7/05 and I didn't want to return to the same place that my mom was treated. Wanted a different scenery and of course a different outcome. Good luck with your search, there are lots of good onc between MGH and Dana Faber. Remember they share research both facilities are part of Partners group, also is the Brigham and Women.

Hey Leslie,

You might try Stacey Gore. She's a great combination of smart, up to date, and very caring. She works out of Harvard Vanguard's Kenmore office and if your insurance allows, I'd really recommend her. She's also affiliated with the Brigham, I think.

Also, John Erban, Chief of Oncology at Tufts New England hospital seems like one of the few "research leaders" who's also a nice guy. But Tufts New England is a bit intimidating--huge urban hospital, etc.

For what it's worth, I'd steer you away from Harold Burstein, who is a big bc guy at Dana Farber. I think he's kind of arrogant and above-it-all.

But there's also a practice called "Cancer Center of Boston" that has good docs and offices in Boston, Plymouth and Framingham. I know both Jacob Lokich and Murray Bern there and like them both a lot...
