Update on Thickened Uterus

I wanted to let everyone know that my uterine biopsy was completely normal - not even any aplasia. I had to get another ultrasound yesterday to track the cyst. The lining thickness was reduced by 25% but the cyst was still there.

My gyno wants to perform an oophorectomy because he feels that this cyst could become troublesome (and ovarian cancer also runs in the family too). The surgery isn't a big deal but today I get my 7th of 52 Herceptins.

I remember reading that many of you were taking Herceptin and had this procedure done. I ABSOLUTELY want to continue Herceptin on time. What is the protocol for continuing weekly doses so I can advise my onco (if I need to - I did change Doctors on Wed like I wanted and this guy is sharp - a real thinker).

Hi Becky; I had surgery in 2002 while on Herceptin...not oophorectomy but a mastectomy. I had just started on the 3 weekly schedule, so I had my first (and loading) triple dose on April 1 and had the mastectomy on April 10. My surgeon and oncologist both said it would be important to keep my Herceptin levels up while having surgery and recuperating, as their concern was the stress of surgery could possibly cause a recurrence. I had no complications whatsoever, but if memory serves me right an electocardiogram was performed just before surgery to insure my heart function was up to par. Hope this helps.

Have had surgery with anethesia while on weekly herceptin no prolems.

Glad to hear your biopsy came back fine.

I had a Herceptin tx on a Thursday, TRAM flap recontruction on Monday, and dragged myself back for another Herceptin tx that Friday. I wasn't going to let 8 hrs. of surgery keep me from getting my life's blood! That was 1 1/2 yrs. ago. You'll do fine.

I had my ovaries out last month. Just be sure to take it easy even though you might feel fine. Give yourself time to heal properly.
