Hope this is all of interest to you, as your reports are to me. I saw my oncologist yesterday and asked him about flaxseed and the muffins He thought the report interesting and said flaxseed is definitely good to use. He said, however, that the 3 to 4 glasses of soy milk I was drinking a day, plus tofu, was just too much soy. He said soy acts like estrogen and while a small amount is beneficial, it should be a smaller amount than I was using. So I will go to rice or almond milk instead of soy. He said the vegetarian pH balanced diet is evidently doing me good. I also told him I had stopped all my blood pressure meds because of the unexplainable bad dizzy spells that had put me twice in ER. Now I have no dizziness and my blood pressure is more normal instead of so low! As you all say, sometimes we have to take our treatment into our own hands! He has been with me through 20 years of fighting BC, and constantly expresses amazement at how good I look and feel! There is something that showed up in my T11 vertebra on my last CT scan, so I am having a PET scan next week. I had cancer in T9 and T10 vertebras 15 years ago that we "cured" with just tamoxifen. I'll report the results of this new scan. Thanks for all your sharing. I feel as if I know you all. Hugs, Tricia

Thanks, Tricia. I have daily soy milk, but that is about it for soy for me, too. I take fresh-ground flax seed daily faithfully and I do feel it makes a difference, especially if I miss taking it once in a while. It is such a simple and inexpensive way to get some significant benefit that I think many people make the mistake of passing it up just because it isn't a "pill".

I knew that about soy and so have used rice milk. I don't like the taste of the soy milk so that worked out find for me. I like the rice milk. We learn something new all the time. hugs, Sandy

The better Mexican food places here in Arizona make a wonderful drink out of rice milk that is called "Horchata". It's made with rice milk, sugar, cinnamon and lots of finely crushed ice. I don't use sugar but have been making Horchata with the rice milk, stevia, crushed ice and cinnamon. It is really refreshing. You might enjoy trying it sometime! Hugs, Tricia

There was a period of time after chemo (over three years ago) that I was drinking a lot of soy milk and eating tofu. Along with the broccoli and cabbage the soy created a problem with my thyroid basically shutting it down. Now I incorporate miso into my diet and have not had any problems with it. It is a fermented product that removes the enzyme that raises havoc with the thyroid. When I open the container I always smile because in the lid there is a message that states that taking miso reduces your chance of breast cancer by 50%! Four 1/2 years out and it just may be (atleast) part of the reason why.
Kathy... Wishing you the best with your PET scan!
