no amount of radiation safe

I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT SOME OF YOU THOUGHT OF YESTERDAYS STATEMENT THAT NO AMOUNT OF RADIATION IS SAFE.THAT RADIATION TREATMENTS MAY IN FACT CAUSE OTHER CANCERS IN THE FUTURE...OR OTHER AILMENTS SUCH AS RESPITORY PNUEMONIA...SOMEONE I KNOW IS SUPPOSE TO BEGIN RADIATION TREATMENTS FOR BC SOON AND IS NOW WONDERING WHAT TO DO OR HOW SAFE IS IT..CAN THE DRS .THAT PERFORM THIS TREATMENT BE TRUSTED TO TELL TRUTH...WHATS ONE TO DO...

"Safe" is a relative thing:

In June 29 WASHINGTON story headlined "Study shows radiation causes cancer but rarely" please read in fourth paragraph ... the equivalent of 1,000 chest X-rays ... instead of ... the equivalent of 10 chest X-rays ...
A corrected story follows:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Exposure to everyday sources of radiation, mostly medical X-rays, raises the risk of cancer but not by much and there is no clear line between a harmless dose and a disease-causing dose, an expert panel reported on Wednesday.

People should think twice about having unnecessary high-dose X-rays such as the full-body CAT scans being offered by some clinics, the panel advised, but otherwise should be reassured by the findings.

The report from the National Research Council updates 1990 findings based mostly on survivors of the 1945 atomic bomb attacks against Japan, about 45 percent of whom are still alive.

A low dose of about 100 millisieverts of radiation -- the equivalent of 1,000 chest X-rays -- can be expected to cause cancer in one out of every 100 people, the report finds.

Safe. How to define. I was always leary of radiation, but then 20 brain mets were discovered. My only option? Whole brain radiation. Without the radiation, I'm sure I'd be gone. Might it have future effects? Possibly. But at least I'll HAVE a future.

I think I must just take the prize for the most radiation, I started in 1998 and I think I calculated I have had over 100 doses since then, the last just finished in April. I have got fibrosis on the lung in one part, nerve damage to the left neck and shoulder but, like my onc says that is the price to stay alive, I chuckle to myself when I take my kids for an X-Ray and they say for me to leave the room, same at the dentist, plus I have had just about the same amount of nuclear dye in my system from endless tests, the main damage with radiation is nerve damage and you will only be given enough so that you have minimal damage. Hope this helps, I also laugh to myself when all the staff run out of the room and leave me there to cop it. I have the flue needle and now the phneuomonia one, probably speld wrong but you will know what I mean.
