I'm trying to get my Mom to Sloan-Kettering for treatment (Stage IV with mets to lungs, now has mets to brain, undergoing WBR). When I call the referral service I have been assigned to see Dr. Veach, whose speciality seems to be lung cancer. I would rather she sees a BC specialist. Does anyone know of a good BC specialist at Sloan-Kettering, and what's the best way to get an appointment with a specific doctor? (I did get 2 names on another board - Dr. Hudis and Dr. Dang).

I would appreciate any advise. Thanks, All. This board has been such an emotional support for me.

Bina,

I've spoken to Dr. Hudis and found him to be very nice and considerate. I've also heard that Dr. Larry Norton is recognized by many as one of the premier docs for her2 bc. Hope this helps.

Dr. Roshini George is the BC specialist at Sloan's satellite arm in Denville, NJ located at the St. Clare's Medical Center. Dr. George is encouraging and hopeful.

Bina,

Dr. Hudis is probably the guy you want to see. He is the director for BC at Sloan. We met with him in November and he was very good. He is very up to date on the latest treatments, in fact they pioneered the use of dose dense weekly taxol at Sloan that has become so popular. I had a question a few months after the visit and put a call in to him, and he called back within five minutes. I can't say that for the other Dr.'s I've dealt with.

Good Luck,

Scott

I've seen Dr. Dang as my second. She is wonderful - very honest as they all are at Sloane.

Thanks for the replies. Scott, how did you go about getting an appointment with Dr. Hudis? Was he the first MD you saw at Sloan, or were you already in the system? How long did it take to get an appointment? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure my mom gets the best. Thanks again.

Bina,

I saw Dr. Andrew Seidman at Sloane. He is a BC specialist. He has also conducted trials on weekly Taxol and Taxol and Herceptin.

My prayers are with you and your Mom.

Joan
