Hi:

My mother has been undergoing chemo with Taxotere and Herceptin on a weekly basis for the past 5 weeks...In the last three weeks she has lost about 7 pounds...is this normal? Is this because of the treament or because of the disease? I must mention that my mother is eating less, because of nausea, not being able to taste anything, depression etc...additionally my mother who has never slept more than 5 hours a day is now sleeping more than 8 hours daily...

Pls let me know if anyone has had similar symptoms and if you know what might b causing this.

Thanks

Shahyan

Shahyan:

I was 58 when diagnosed with BC and I lost 20 lbs during chemotherapy dropping from 135 to 115. Most of my weight loss was the first eight weeks. About three weeks after finishing chemo my appetite returned and I ate huge amounts of food for about two months. My oncologist said not to worry that my body was trying to replenish it self I returned to 125 lbs. which is a good weight and I am trying not to gain any more.

I hope your mother feels better shortly.

Barbara
