great scans

Hi all,

Some great news...my wife Caryn just had her 2nd series of scans (CAT and PET) since being declared NED in January and still NED. YIPPEE!!!! I hope this serves as hope for many others. Just as a reminder...she was diagnosed stage 4 with mets to lungs and liver 7/04 and took gemzar and herceptin until the end of December.

Great news for Caryn! She can get over her chemo side effects and you can watch her regain her stamina. It is the little things that will be meaningful - but they will build on each other until things are feeling closer to "normal" again.
With a caring helpmate like you, she can't help but beat this awful disease. I know my husband has taken a lot of pressure off me and is kind enough to thank me for nice meals!

That is WONDERFUL Eric. For some reason I was thinking if she got to NED you were going to look into a vaccine trial?

Rosebud, you're right, we hope to get started soon with vaccines at UWA and the scans were the final step. I will certainly let everyone know and share her experiences.

Lorri, Caryn's receives weekly herceptin since stopping chemo the end of December. Although we would love to switch her to every 3 weeks, we don't want to take a chance messing with success. I know the stats say it's as successful but we don't want to take any chances.

Hi Eric -
I went on 3-weekly Herceptin right after getting off chemo and beating out my awful liver mets. Also got Zometa at the same time for over a year, then cut that back to every 6 weeks.
You know I am still NED for 3 years next month (except for brain mets that nothing we took could change anyway).

Caryn may also be a candidate for Zometa to help build up and protect her bones. Not sure if this does anything to the vaccine trials. For the one I was talking about, it did not matter.

Funny you bring up Zometa, since it was the one thing her onc agreed to give her even without bone mets. She started the Zometa when she started the herceptin and has been getting it ever since.
