Hi all, I was talking to another BC lady today who has just had a reoccurence since original in 1998. She had a bone scan and it showed a lump on her head which is cancer of the bone in the skull. They are going to treat it with radiaiton and Xeloda. She says she doesn't have brain mets but she has not had a MRI. Has anyone else experienced this? She also has a lump in the neck but says she has had all the rads she can there. The strange thing is they have never biopsied any lumps so she hasn't been HER2 tested so I told her today to get one done, I feel that she may be a candidate, not that I have anyone else here in treatment having Herceptin.

Love & Hugs Lyn

Lyn,

When I was first diagnosed with bone mets, they were also on my skull. When I was later diagnosed with brain mets, I asked if I should have had radiation to the skull, but they said they were unrelated. So the skull bone met didn't seep into the brain somehow.

My treatment for all the bone mets has been Zometa (along with whatever chemo I've been on.) No radiation for the bones.

Best wishes to you and your friend.

Love and light,

Lisa

Mets to the skull are not rare, but not very common either.
I know 2 people besides Lisa who had/have them.
When I was having my consult for Gamma Knife they sent me down for a scan of my skull to rule out any possibility of bone mets there. The reasoning was that when the headframe was attached they did not want to inadvertantly push in on an undisclosed met and crack my skull with the pressure. They were just being thorough!
