My onc is at the ASCO convention and there is a very good chance I will be getting herceptin when he returns. I haven't seen any posts on any of the BC sites regarding herceptin and exercise. Given it's cardiotoxicity I'm wondering if it is OK to run while on it.

I got Herceptin every three weeks for a year and didn't alter my exercise program at all (swimming 1.2 miles a day, long walks). You will get regular echograms, and of course if things look dubious you would have to adjust your exercise, but i think your assumption shold be that the Herceptin will not affect your daily life at all (except, one hopes, to prolong it for decades).

I wish I would get off my bottom and at least WALK. Exercise can only help your heart...to mention your cells. I've not hear of one woman on this web site who had any heart problems. With regular echocardiograms (every 6 months or so), your doc will be able to monitor your heart and take you off Herceptin TEMPORARILY until the heart gets better.

Run like the wind, girl!

Love and light,

Lisa
