I've already gone past 1 year.... I started it in April 2003, in combination with the taxotere (every 3 weeks not weekly unfortunately - didn't know then that weekly might be better). I finished taxotere on June 25 2003 and continued the herceptin (every 3 weeks) for one year past that.... so I'll have had it for a total of 15 months when I get my last one on July 28th...
I pressed to go one full year alone (as opposed to 1 year total) but I'm comfortable (I think?) going off of it now. Most of the trials are looking at 1 year and since I had 15 months I've already gone beyond that. More is not always better and for me going beyond the 1 year post is swimming in unchartered waters.... (although the HERA trial has an arm that goes 2 years so I guess it's not completely out of the question). The other thing that keeps me sane is that I'll be continuing on the lupron and arimidex. I can always go back on it (even without any new disease) if the trend goes that way....
And that's my deal.... Ask me next week - I might have changed my mind!
