I am 32 yo dx Stage 1 last year. I had mast with 4 cycles of Taxotere and Cyttoxan,... I was Her 2+ and want my dr to give me Herceptin.. She says no its only given in the metastatic setting. I want the drug now and not wait for a recurrence. Has anyone dealt with something like this? Any INFO would help me please. I have 3 young sons I want to be here to raise. Thanks BUFFY

What hospital are you at? You can cite Columbia Presbyterian as one hospital that gives it before mets. I know there are others!!

I live in ft worth texas. I want the drug here. I know of another lady who got it first line but she was stage 2 but she still had not distant mets. I give chemo for a living and know this is the thing to do. I am on Arimidex are you?

yes, i am on arimidex. i had herceptin at stage II as well. i think it is really important that you find a doc that is willing to give you herceptin. good luck!!

Buffy,

If your desire for herceptin now is greater than your the confidence you have in your dr, then you may want to consider another doc! There seems to be tons out there that are willing to give for non-stage IV. Best of luck with whatever decision you make.
