Al,
don't confuse brain cancer with brain mets. Current drugs available for breast cancer do not cross the brain/blood barrier as previously posted.
I try to push for annual brain MRI's. It's important to have that first one done so that there is something to compare future MRI's to.
When mets are first dx it should be routine to have the brain MRI done to rule out mets there so that your dr has a better understanding of what you are up against as a team.
I have concerns about your comment about the onc. Switch dr's ASAP. It is so important to have an onc you and your wife are comfortable with and feel you can trust. Her life is dependent on that dr's knowledge and expertise. I absolutely loved my last onc but my disease became too complicated, no longer garden variety cancer (kidding - just a tonge in cheek term. ladies). I switched to an onc at a cancer center that came highly recommended and have been thriving under her care.
