I'm currently taking herceptin and on a weekly basis for the about two years now. I will be going out of the country in December for for about three weeks. I was wondering if its okay to suspend the herceptin intake for that long?

Lucy,

I went out of town for a month - had a triple dose before I left and then only missed one week.
I certainly think it can be done!

My onc. has encouraged me to take a trip if I want to beause things are stable. They would just "reload" me with Herceptin when I return. Like the first dose, you are given more I guess to get you up to some level is how I understood it. I haven't dared take a break yet, only been on it 6 months.

Ask your doctor if you can get the triple dosage which lasts 3 weeks.

I go out of town frequently, and my onc understands how important it is for my mental health to do so. I just let them know in advance when I'll be gone, and they plan the treatments accodingly.

I've been on Herceptin/Navelbine for almost 7 months and everything seems to be working great.

You should have no problems working with your onc and planning for a 3 week trip

The nice thing about herceptine is exactly what everyone has mentioned, you can get loading doses for trips, etc.
