Good Evening to ALL You Awesome Lady Warriors,
Have not posted here for a few months and decided that tonight is as good as any. When I last posted, Cyndi had just been diagnosed with brain mets. We traveled to Dallas to see about a Cyberknife and/or GammaKnife procedures. CyndiÃâ€*s lesions were too small for Cyber to be a wise choice, and too numerous for the Gamma. The neuro surgeon said that the risk of stroke, loss of memory, and basic brain function were SLIGHTLY elevated with the stereo tactic procedures. Those risks were not acceptable to Cyndi.
Cyndi had WBR the last part of June. She only had twelve radiations because the tumors were found early. That is thanks in NO SMALL PART to you ladies who post at this site. You convinced me that an MRI before symptoms was the thing to do, and after some coercion for both Cyndi and the oncologist the test was performed. I always think things like this are God things, and I also know that He sometimes uses others to send and to verify his care. So, thank you all for doing your part!
Cyndi tolerated the WBR very well, only a little brain swelling near the end of the treatments. The swelling caused her to become susceptible to vomiting, and she still fights that. We have found that Phenergan Gel is the most reliable treatment for Cyndi, it is cheap and works reasonable fast. Just rub it on the inside of the wrist.
When we tried to start Gemzar she had to pretty much go to bed for about a week after treatment. Her blood work and vitals were good, she was just shot. Naturally this made her angry and even more determined to get up and go. Which further drained her energy. Then she started running fever again and was eventually put in the hospital for more testing and another MRI. The bad news, and the good news is that the tumors were unchanged. We finally have come to believe that she had a bug of some type, as now I have also been puny as well as many other folks in this part of the country.
The Doc has decided to give her a one month vacation from chemo. Then we will do another series of scans and if nothing has changed, he may try again with Herceptin as monotherapy. Each time before when ôHö was introduced with Taxotere or Taxol, she developed PE.
Considering all the hellish places Cyndi has been, I think she is really doing quite well. I just stand amazed by the thing you ladies do each day. I do not believe I have met anyone at the cancer center with a case of the PLMÃâ€*s. (Poor Little MeÃâ€*s) I am sorry for those who do not have a support team like my daughters and their families.
