Devastated-Failed Navelbine/Carbo/Herceptin

I received my CT results today. I have gone from one tumor in my small bowel to 2 different areas in the small bowel, one to the colon and one to the kidney. Why does it feel like the beginning of the end? I have had 4 recurrences but they have always happened during a time of NED, not while on chemo. We are going to try Epirubicin next week, every three weeks always proceeded by an echo. If my heart doesn't hold out we will go to Gemzar. After that I think we have run out of options. My heart breaks for my children. Thanks for listening.

JoJo said it perfectly...do not give up hope, every time you hit a roadblock, envision a way to go over it, around it, whatever it takes. There is much power in prayer and positive thinking, and you have both from all of us.

Hi Jerri...so sorry that you got crappy news today. but PLEASE do not give up hope. you are about to try a NEW chemo, and there are still others left to try as well as other combinations.

How is your energy level? Can you do some yoga? I don't want to be pushing "snake oil", but I visualize my liver DETOXING when I practice yoga, especially when i practice in a heated room. Poses that twist the abdomen are especially good for that feeling of liver detoxification. I can't promise you any "results", but it absolutely canot hurt to try.

Also, I recommend meditation. Five minutes per day. It is amazing how it makes me feel. Sit with a timer and time five minutes. Sit with your hips higher than your knees, your palms face down on your thighs, your elbows bent. Keep your eyes open and gazing to the floor in front of you. Focus on your EXHALES. As you find your mind wandering, which you inevitably WILL, just acknowledge that you are "thinking" and then go back to your exhale. Five minutes goes by quickly, and it feels like you've had a half hour nap.

Try to keep in mind that YOU didn't fail the combo, IT failed you. The next combe may be the one that works for you, if not then the Gemzar, and by then there will most likely be other options available, as new drugs are being introduced almost daily. One thing to keep an eye on are drugs being used for other types of cancer, as if they are getting good results oncologists will often prescribe them "off label", which is how many have been getting Herceptin in earlier stage disease outside of clinical trials, and if fact Navelbine was initially used for non-small-cell lung cancer then "crossed over" into breast cancer use. So don't despair, there are many options out there, and you have to fight for the sake of your family. Thinking of you today and sending thoughts of encouragement...

I have two friends with recent news of disease progression to various parts. You have a lot of company in this fight. Keep the faith and stare this disease straight on. If you do not feel that your med team is on the latest track for your current problem, try elsewhere. Make sure they are consulting with the best there is. Hold their feet to the fire - it is YOUR life and they are supposed to help you keep it.
All my best and positive wishes for a good response to the epirubicin. You might want to take COq10 for your heart.
