Hi, I'm just curious...

For those who are/have been on Navelbine or Carbo (with or without Herceptin), would you explain your side effects and how they have been managed?

Please mention that you are or have been with or without Herceptin.

Thanks! Hugs

I have been on taxol, carbo.,herc., weekly (3on/1off) for 4 rounds. I also get zometa monthly. My side effects have been minimal. I have had some diahrea caused by the carbo. I havn't had to take anything for it since it hasn't been too bothersome. Blessings, Lu Ann.

Jojo,

I have been on Navelbine/Herceptin for 2 months now. 3 weeks on, 1 week off. I receive Navelbine/Herceptin on weeks 1 and 3 and then on week 2, just Navelbine. This allows me to have a "real" week off. I have had some expected side effects and then some "not so expected" side effects.

After the first treatment I thought my taste buds were just altered, but it was Oral Thrush. Unfortunately I didn't catch it soon enough and ended up pretty miserable. Nystatin didn't cure it, but after 2 days on Diflucan it did. But, must not have been totally cured, as thrush came back on next treatment. Then did more Diflucan for longer period of time and have been fine since.

My white cell count went down below 2.0 after the 3rd treatment, so nightly shots of Nuepogen started. Happily all counts are now in normal range.

After one of my treatments I ended up with a Urinary Tract infection (never had one of those before...yuck). Cipro cured that within 3 days. I always drink plenty of water, so who knows why I have had these unusual side effects.

My first time around in 2002, I had AC and Taxol, then Herceptin in clincal trial for 1 year. Very minimal side effects with AC/T...Navelbine must just be hard on me. I have read that many people tolerate it much better than me. Oh, and the muscle aches are not pleasant, although I expected them (the neupogen shots don't help that either).

I can't tell by your post if you have started the chemo regiment or not yet. I just wanted to share my odd side effects, so you could watch for them. They're all treatable, but like anything if you catch them early, it's easier. I have two more months on this treatment cycle. Then monthly Herceptin for a least on year (longer if I have anything to say about it).

Glad that you had such a good time at the Olympics. They were great to watch on TV, must have been even more inspiring in person!

God Bless
Cindi.

dear jojo
navlbine together with herceptin had my red and white blood cells falling.. i got a fever on the third day after the chemo.. to boost the wbc count i was given neupogen shots or granocyte 34 intl units and that helped keep me away from other infections.. for the red wbc improvement i had blood transfusion.. wd hv preferred the shots but in india they are way to expensive..navelbine worked so well for my liver and lung mets..the docs are thrilled ..lets see what wl happen next

Sandy,

Thrush is the same as yeast, yes. It was not a soapy taste for me, it was more of a super tart and eventually painful taste.

Plus, after 1 1/2 days I thought to look inside my mouth and most of my mouth and tougue was very white. When I compared it to my husband's, I knew what it was then.

I hope this gives you more to go on.

God Bless,
Cindi.
