Meds to prevent ovaries from chemo toxicity

Hi Ladies,

It slipped my mind (of course, chemo brain!) to let you know that there is a new medication you could take for preventing the functionning of your ovaries from chemo toxicity. However, you would need 2 weeks for the meds to kick in.

My onc offered for me to take this opportunity solely based on my own personal decision, when she found out that I've never been pregnant. I was 35 at primary diagnosis. I declined, because I was so advanced already (stage 3b) that I wanted to take on chemo right away. I just didn't want to wait at all!

I didn't bother to ask my onc for the name of the meds, though. If you want me to find out, let me know. I will see her in 2.5 weeks. If any of you happen to know, drop a line here please. :-)

Lupron is thought to maybe have some protection but is not proven. I di regain menses but now take Lupron and Femara. I learned from this site that Tamoxifen does not work as well for Her2+++ pts. like myself. I can never say enough about the valuable information on this site. It has inspired me to fight the disease and my Drs.. Drs. it has been studied are the most dangerous things to you. Not that every Dr. is dumb but some will not step out of the box (like mine) until I kept pushing for Herceptin with 2nd and 3rd consults which opened his mind. He does not like to use it for NED pts. which does not make a lot of sense to me (but that is a personal opinion). We need to challenge our Drs., ask questions, get second opinions. Drs. are not God's and unfortunately cancer is very unpredictable. As a post mentioned above it is so hard to give stats because each case is unique. My oncologist jokes and says he left his crystal ball at home today. I have two oncologist whenever a treatment decision has to be made so that I can make informed decisions.
