I'm Sorry but...

We've had to make several changes to our message boards. We have become the target for various spammers recently and as a result I have been deleting several messages a day for the last few weeks. This has neccesitated the following changes to our boards:

1. Newly registered members must submit a valid email address. In turn they will receive an email which they then must confirm before they can post on the bords.

2. Guests will no longer be able to post messages or respond to mssages.

I also need several volunteers to help moderate the boards. If they see any spam posts, they will have the power to delete them.

Also, when choosing Usernames and/or passwords, keep them simple and easy to remember. Some suggestions are: husbands name, childs name, last 4 digits of your phone number.

I am sorry to have to make these changes but I have no alternative. The HER2 Support Group will be placing an ad in the next issue of Cure Magazine and we will be hosting many new members.

Regards
Joe

I can help you police the board. You can check, but I think I can already do some tasks due to some authority you gave me for the chat room topic project. Let me know.

Joe - There is another one for a dating service that I just sent in as a "Bad Post."

Dear Joe and Christine,
This is really sad to read about. You really do not need this aggravation and the site is so vital to so many people it is scandalous and disgusting. Unfortunately it is a reflection of many parts of life that there are bad people or exploitative people who will intrude and harm a wonderful community. It's sick and sad and I am so offended that you have to deal with this as well as your own health and doing a selfless and helpful website.
I am not sure if I can help or not, but if you think there's a way I can, of course I would want to.
I must be terribly naive or you have moved so quickly but I have not noticed anything weird.
I do hope you can solve this problem without too much of a burden on you. The very worst thing that could happen is that you would give up this website because it became overwhelming.
Please know that I for one (and I know that everyone feels the same way) appreciate what you have created and admire you tremendously.
I am grateful beyond words that you exist,
sarah

THank you. I think it is a good thing that you are taking care of this early. At my job I get messages every day about Viagra, hot stock tips, Russian blondes, and products that will lenghten the body part I don't have. Our Information Tech at work says he can't stop all the Spam. Certainly I will send you info if I notice a dubious post. MJO

Would be happy to help

With the eight-hour time difference, the spam wouldn't stay up for very long.
