Shallow Question

Has anyone ever dyed their hair while on chemo? My roots are getting bad and I was thinking of just combing some dye through my hair and trying not to keep it on my scalp too much. I don't know if it will work, but I don't like going to the beauty shop and them putting the dye on my scalp for 45 minutes under a heat lamp. Any ideas? God Bless You All- Cathy

I am on xeloda & I colored my hair about 6 weeks ago. I went to a beauty shop. It's not a 'dye', but a rinse (sorry I don't remember exactly what it's called) that is supposed to last a couple of months, and gradually fade. So far it has held the color very well and my hair doesn't seem to have suffered any damage from it. THis is the first time I've tried any hair coloring while on chemo. (For most of my chemo experience I haven't had hair to dye!) Pam

Hi Cathy,Not a shallow question at all!!! Looking good after this is so important to feeling good! I had asked my onc and she said it was fine to do, just no peroxide.( My photo posted is from Christmas last year just prior to chemo.....and yes it was helped along with peroxide!) I instead used an over the counter fades out after 20 something washes product, and will continue for at least a year. I think it actually helped to make it look fuller as it came in so gray.

I would say it is safe to use one of the products that are NOT permanent...liek the one by clairol or Loreal...just read the labels...i think they are called level 2 or 3...temporary..not permanent. These do not contain peroxide and do a great job.

Hope this helps

Oops, I have been naughty and I have been streaking my hair with peroxide for as long as I can remember, I figure what is another chemical going to do to me. Probably the peroxide is what gave me BC in the first place.
