anti-nausea pills
Hi to all, For all of you who did not experience nausea with TCH was it because they gave you ani-nausea medicine? I am deciding whether to take tje anti-nausea medicine or not?

Hi snufi, I was given pre-meds of Emend and sometimes Kytril before the chemo and then I took Emend at home (usually for 5 days afterward) and sometimes Kytril or Compazine. It's very important to keep that nausea in check (before it even starts) so that it doesn't get out of control. You'll feel better, sleep better and be able to keep nourishing foods down (or be able to even eat them). Not everyone gets nausea from this treatment, but most do and they will give you the intravenous anti-nausea medicine before they give you the treatment. Keep some meds around, in case, so you can stave off any nausea you may be experiencing. Good luck in your decision and let us know how you're doing. Love and Hugs, Vickie

Ativan
I had nausea a couple times, mostly the heartburn was my problem, and I took Ativan in the evening and it helped me sleep through the night. It's very fast acting and gave me very peaceful sleep. I highly recommend it.

I took Emend during and after the treatments according to the doctor's instructions. I did have nausea for a few hours after the first treatment, but that was it. I never had any other nausea. I found that sucking ice cubes helped a lot. That and drinking a lot of cold water.
Use whatever helps, and remember, each treatment brings you closer to health!

Strangely enough, my wife chews gum and says that it is the only thing that helps with the nausea. She also takes emend and ativan.
She's on taxotere and carboplatin every 3 weeks and herceptin every week.

I took my Zofran religiously when I was going through chemo even though I had no nausea. The doctors and nurses warned me to TAKE IT NO MATTER WHAT...and I did! I took no chances in vomitting getting a hold of me........I experienced very little nausea and no vomitting whatsoever.
Hugs to you,
Mary Jo

I did not experience nausea nor was I given anything for it routinely. I had a prescription for Compazine and took it once or twice when I felt ill while traveling.
I did have a problem with loss of appetite.

Snufi, you've gotten very good advice here. There are many different types of anti-nausea meds out there. If you have that problem, keep trying different ones until you find what works for you.

Snufi,
I had Zofran on hand but only had to take it once or twice. I had very little nausea. I was given pre-meds before A/C and Taxol.

Snufi, no need to try to be a hero here. Take the meds BEFORE the nausea. Emend was a med that we are so happy we heard before we started the A/C. Ed managed to be able to eat as well as he could thanks to all the anti-nausea meds. Remember, before...say it with us all...Sending prayers and healing energy. Keep us posted with how things are going.>>Believe51

I had Taxol and Herceptin and those did not cause nausea for me. The A/C made me nauseas but I stayed ahead of it with the meds.

Re: anti-nausea pills
I did TCH and like everybody else said, I didn't wait for nausea to begin. I was prescribed anti-nausea meds to take every four hours and I did, even though I didn't need them. I never had one second's of nausea.
A lot of people wait until they get sick to start and then you are behind and it's harder to catch up. The anti-nausea meds don't have any SEs and so they won't hurt you to take it even if you don't feel you need it. Good luck.

Re: anti-nausea pills
I had no nausea and only felt queasy now and then, the whole idea of these meds are to prevent nausea rather than stop once it begins!!
I had zofran which worked for me very well and I'd advise taking what you have as it's tough to stop it once it starts but can be preventad if you take the meds!
