Re: Relationship of thyroid hormone T3 to breast cancer

Yvonne,

I was diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism a little over a year before I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I spent 3 months on a low dose of synthroid before my immune system when crazy. Although I stopped the synthroid immediately, I suffered with persistent, intense itching all over for 6 months, until I was finally given steroid cream to break the itching cycle. A few months later, I had my annual mammogram that led to my breast cancer diagnosis. I have been researching the link between the two events ever since, and am convinced the synthroid treatment is responsible for my breast cancer. Whenever I see some research into the area of thyroid and breast cancer, my antenna goes up.

PS - I still have subclincal hypothyroidism, and the TSH is higher now than it was before dx. One theory is that this is caused by antibodies that attack both the thyroid and breast cancer. I am leaving it alone!
