Re: Interesting..research
This is intriguing. I am curious - what is it about quick freezing that stimulates the immune system? Wish they had offered some insights.

Re: Interesting..research
I think it might be like the reaction we have when we get cold - goose bumps cause the skin(hairs) to trap the heat and keep us feel a little warmer. Our immune system might have a natural reaction to rush anti-cancer agent to the area and take care of business.
Seems to make sense. Plus, the freezing probably stopped the cancer cells from migrating to other parts of the body - sort of like when criminals hear policeman calling out: "Freeze!"

Re: Interesting..research
I sure hope there is something to this!!!
As you all know (because I blithered on about it for pages!!), I had cryosurgery for a single liver met.
This article is interesting because the interventional radiologist "blasted" the tumor for 30 seconds, waited and then blasted it again. I think he did this 3 or 4 times.
Here's to freezing those nasty cells to death!! No mittens for them.

Re: Interesting..research
Very interesting --- wonder when they will start trying this on people!? ;-)
I also would like to see what they say about the reason that this stimulates the immune system. Overall - I think that is the winner! I'm counting on it - as I work to rebuild the strength of mine with food and supplements --- would be intersting to know!

Re: Interesting..research
Hey, Pink Girl! Love the new avatar! Neil is fab! Squirrelly lookin' dude, but talented. Ever catch him in concert? I'm sure you have. A fine 'Nuk from the North! I always loved his line from Long May You Run about Blind River. We used to fish for pike and walleye there when I was a kid. Later we would fish in Quebec around Senneterre. My parents would take these little kids out into the wilds of Canada for weeks camping on the lake shores to fish. We'd spend all day in the boat and cook our fish for lunch on whatever island we could pull up to. Saw lots of amazing wildlife from otters to wolves and moose (and the occasional curious bear!). Got eaten alive by the mosquitoes and depending on the time of year, the black flies! Ah, those Canadian memories......

Re: Interesting..research
Thanks Laurel. No, I've never seen him in concert. If he'd had one in
Blind River I would have been there
I'm glad you have fond memories of our fish, wildlife and skeeters.
You know ... in Canuckville ... they are called Jack fish and Pickerel.

Re: Interesting..research
Which one is the Jack Fish, the walleye or the pike? I am guessing the pike is the pickerel, but I really have no idea! They sure do make for good eating! I always loved fish. We also would skinny dip in that cold water and freeze! I remember once I got bloodsuckers (leeches) on my feet in one of the lakes! I was scared half to death!
I have many fond memories of Canada!

Re: Interesting..research
Yes, bloodsuckers .... always take a salt shaker to the beach ... they hate
salt and will curl up and fall off of you.... yuck.
The walleye is the pickerel and the Northern Pike is the Jack. I think the
pickerel are yummy.
