hair loss 2nd time

I was told that I will loose my hair again. Did any of you loose your hair once but not the second time? (with the same drugs) I am on Taxotere/Carboplatin/Herceptin. Does it come in curly the second time? I'm thinking because of menopause it might come back grey. I'm only 40 yrs. old but had my ovaries removed so I am post-meno. My hair came back thick dark and curly at first the first time. It eventually went back to my normal hair. Thanks for any input. Sally

Hi Sally, I started losing my hair the second time after starting Taxotere with Hercepin/Xeloda, and ended up shaving it off it got so thin. Now 6 months later am on Taxol/Carbo/Avastin and it's growing back in curley, but gray! (It was dark blond before, but with more and more gray; I'm 53).

I'd had several rounds of other chemos that thin the hair before the T/H/X, so maybe you won't lose it all, it may just thin. Hope so!

Herceptin has served as the "Backbone" of my treatment strategy for over 6 years, giving me great quality of life. In 2005, I was privileged to participate in the University of Washington/Seattle HER2 Vaccine Trial.

Hi Sally!

I was searching for info on Taxotere when I saw your post. I'm 40 years old too. I am going to be starting another clinical trial 2/29 but if it doesn't prove effective enough, my Onc said next step would be Taxotere/Herceptin. I hope you get some helpful info about this. Take care.

Hi Sally - In total, I've lost my hair 5 times and had it thin considerably once! My hair is now shoulder length and wavy/curly - same as it always was. There are a few gray hairs sprinkled in there, but I am going to be 45 this year so I guess they'd be there anyway. One friend's hair came in straight and dark, and another's came in curly and white. Everyone is different, but it does come back!!!

I have lost mine 3 times, each time it has come back 1/3 rat fur brown, 1/3 gray, 1/3 silver... this time since I have been on Xeloda for almost a year, the top hair on top of my head has definitely been thinner and a lot less silver for some reason. Mine has always come back in pretty much the same waviness and texture as it has been for years.

Thank you so much for the replies. It's nice to know when people are listening and care. I will probably shave my head as soon it starts falling out. Last time it sprinkled down my face everytime I moved my head. I'ts just easier to get rid of it than wait to see how thin it gets. Thanks again. Sally

Sally - when you shave it, there are always those little nubbies that are left over. I used a tape lint brush to get rid of them. Not only does it clean off your pillow cases, but it pulls the left overs from your scalp. Strange but true...
