Can't have laproscopic oopherectomy???

Hello Sisters,

I had a prophylactic double mastectomy w/axillary node dissection on March 20. Pathology says ER 90% and PR cells staining as 1+ 40%,2+10%. Have hade the neo chemo A/C and 12 taxol/herceptin.Currently on herceptin and tamoxifen. Next is radiation. DIEP reconstruction in 8 months. I would like to have my ovaries removed to reduce the estrogen. My gynecologist says she can't do a laproscopic ooph because of my previous 3 c sections. (I am saving my abdominal skin for my recon.-I don't want a big scar) Should I seek a second opinion about this or can it still be done? Any estrogen still in my body is making me nervous......

radiation begins in May

Alice-
Can you suppress your ovaries via Zoladex shots for now and then have your gyn remove them when you are having DIEP? Maybe at Stage 2. It may be possible, I would ask.

I just had a laproscopic hysterectomy and ooph and I had 2 prior c sections. My obgyn never mentioned my prior c sections being a problem.

If you do find someone to do it for you may want to have them mark where the incisions will be to be sure they don't interfere with you reconstruction plans.

Have you asked if it can be done through your c section scar or vaginally? These were also options my gyn and I discussed.

Hope this helps.

I just wanted to add the incisions for my lap ooph were a 1/2 inch in my navel and a small "stab" next to my right hip. I've never had a c-section, but I have seen some scars and they seem too be out of that field. Your doc just may not be comfortable with laporoscopic procedures. I would get a second opinion.

Alice,

I have a huge TRAM flap scar and had 2 c-sections. My gyno said she could try to do it laparscopically but it may be difficult and essentially I wouldn't know until I woke up, which way she had to go...

I'm leaning towards just doing Tamoxifen now.

Can you do Tamoxifen and get ovarian suppression shots or is that redundant?

I had 2 c sections. Just did a laparascopy removal of ovaries. I had LOTS of scar tissue to get there - don't know if because c sections.

I did not use tummy skin for my mastectomies.

my incissions were about 1/2 inch. at navel and at each ovary. right hurt more than left due to scar tissue
recovering slow with lots of pain but bearable.

I had mine done laproscopically and had 2 previous c-sections. Had a lot of scar tissue removed to get to the ovaries but it wasn't a problem. Gyne didn't think it would be but cautioned he might have to do things differently.

Well, I'm glad to hear you both were able to have it done laparascopically, despite previous surgeries and scarring. I was told at my second C section that my bladder had fused to my uterus due to extensive scarring. I had no idea. No pain, etc. Leaves me to believe that I am probably extensively scarred inside now, after the TRAM flap.

I guess I can take some time before making such a big decision...
