Has anyone done Avon 3 day walk?

I am thinking about participating in the Avon 3 day walk in Chicago on 8/10-12. Has anyone done this walk before, or planning on walking this year? I would love to know more about it before I jump in and commit myself. Any input would be great. Thanks all! Peace KS

Thumbs up Avon Walk

Hi, all.
I did the Avon Walk in NY last October with my two wonderful daughters. I was undergoing Herceptin treatments at the time and didn't know if I'd be able to do the whole thing. I'm not very athletic but my daughters, who are, promised to drag me to the finish line! It was a most wonderful experience. Thousands of people walked beside us and the NY contingent broke all records for fundraising! Our little group alone raised almost $14,000. The money is certainly important but the feeling I got by being surrounded by so many caring, loving people could not be measured in dollars!! The Walk is actually a two-day event of some 21 miles-some people do it in one day!--others can spend the night at the "Wellness Camp" set up by Avon-hot showers, entertainment, food, etc. or you can go to a hotel or home to sleep and join the group the next morning for the last half. I'm sure that the Avon Web site has all the info. Yes, definitely, go for it!! It is not an endurance contest and you can stop if you don't feel well. I'm planning my second Walk this October...

I'm planning on walking in Charlotte, NC in October, as well. I need something to lift my spirits and a diversion of raising funds for a worthy cause will hopefully be the answer

Red face Loved it!

I also did the Avon walk in DC in the Spring of 05. Rained like cats and dogs the first day but the second was beautiful. Our route on the second day took us by one of the non-profit clinics that Avon supports and there were doctors, nurses and patients outside with thank you posters and cheering us on. I was doing great until I got hugged by a lady undergoing current treatment and totally lost it...in a good way.
Do it ~ I highly recommend it once for a survivor to experience something like that. You don't have to walk even, just witness it.

Ruth

Thank you for input

Ladies thank you for your input on the Avon "Susan Komen" walk experiences. I think this is just what I need to get into an exercise routine. I am a little nervous about the high fund raising committment. Does anyone have some ideas other than bake sales on how to raise the suggested amount of $2,200.?
