Surgery yesterday

Hi- Yesterday I had an area removed under my arm that has been bothering me. It was on the same side as my left mast. back in 1999. The surgeon said he was able to remove 95% of it because if he went further, he might have severed a nerve and I wouldn't have been able to raise my arm again. I get my herceptin infusion this Thurs. My onc. retired in Dec. and he was always agressive with my treatments. This new guy is waiting until my next scan in about another month. In the meantime, I feel like I should go back on xeloda and not just the herceptin. The last scan showed other areas that could be trouble too- between my lungs, on my lung and adrenal gland. Do you think I should be on something besides the herceptin? This doctor is very open to our suggestions, but it's almost like he has to be guided. (I still have some xeloda and I was thinking of taking it.)
Changing doctors now would be too stressful and far away.
Thanks and God Bless You All! Cathy

Cathy

First of all I hope you are feeling well....don't overdo and take care of yourself first and foremost. If the Xeloda worked before, it will probably be the place to start as far as getting these areas under control. Many chemos can be reused after a period of being off them. My fear is you starting it without asking the Dr. first.....just in case the doc has something else in mind.....I would call and see if its ok to start.....and if you don't have enough to do six cycles, you will need more anyway. Just my thoughts.....I hope you rest well tonight.

Hi Cathy, hope you're resting well from the surgery, and feeling better. Like Sheila says, I would want to check with the doctor before starting anything new, even though you've had Xeloda before.
I know it's worrisome if you feel there's suspicious areas, maybe you should ask to have scans sooner?
Keep us posted, and take care.
