New here

Hello ladies,

Hi - I am 35; I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma when my baby was just 8 months old. The tumor was 2.4 cms, the cancer is at stage 2B, grade 3, 2/16 lymph nodes+, her2+, ER/PR+, extensive angio-lymphatic invasion (not sure what that means). I've had a lumpectomy done and am currently undergoing dose-dense chemo (4 A/C and 4Taxol and Herceptin for a year).

I started my chemo in late November. I am a little worried because I had expected chemo to stop my periods but it hasn't. I have had 2 periods so far; the second one is on-going and doesn't seem to stop. It's already been over ten days and it was quite heavy. It looked like it was going to stop today but then I had another round of Taxol/Herceptin and I see that it's coming back. I told my oncologist about this and she said it just meant that my ovaries were fighting the chemo. My platelets seem to be normal. I'm afraid that since my cancer was ER+, it might inflame my cancer again. I don't know what to do? do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Misha

It seems you posted for the first time when we are breaking in a new server. I read several answers to your post -- did you get a chance to see them? They have disappeared. I was diagnosed after menopause so I can't comment on your periods. But I can welcome you to the board. You are getting state of the art treatment and will most likely dance at your baby's wedding.

I havent checked this site for a while since it had been down. I did however get a chance to read all of the responses to my question when I first posted here. I'm not sure who re-posted this message - not me! Perhaps th moderator was so kind as to ensure that I did get a chance to read all of the responses. Thank you!

My question today is how many of you with positive nodes did not do radiation? I have 2 positive nodes (micromets) but now that I am considering mastectomy, my rad oncologist doesnt think it is necessary for me to do radiation. I think i'd just rather go the whole hog and get every kind of insurance against mets as possible. What was your experience?

thanks!

Misha

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer with liver mets last April. I have only had surgery and chemo, along with herceptin. I have not had radiation. I think it is because of the mets, but I am not sure. You have reminded me to ask my doctor next visit. Thanks. Oh yea, I had 14 positive nodes.

I had a masectomy and they still wanted to do radiation. My rad onc explained to me that breast cancer can still come back in the scar tissue and it is better to radiate it and try to kill it than to take a chance without trying.
