Question Why Am I Sweating At Night?

Hi All, I have been bothered by PJ soaking night sweats sweating since having my mastectomies. No invasive disease was found and I have not started on any treatments. It really is bothersome. I have to sleep on a bath towel some nights and change my PJs several times. I am 43 and having reg. periods. Has anyone else experienced this? What causes it? When I tell the Docs they just ask if I am having periods. Thanks, Lisa

You may want them to do a estradiol hormone test on you, to see if you are perimenopausal....43 sounds young, but you never know...also possibly a thyroid test...are you hot when this happens or cold? I would ask to have some tests done so they can figure out whats going on. Night sweats can indicate many things that are not hormone related, but most are hormone related...I would check into it more.

I started going through the same thing when I was about 40, I would wake up soaked. I'd be sweating but freezing....perimenopause. It went away after awhile until I did chemo, then I was constantly flashing. It's been a year now and finally the hot flashes are not coming near as often...sherryg683

Hi Lisa

I noticed after my mastectomy 3 weeks ago that for the first couple of weeks I sweated profusely from the mastectomy side. It seems to have settled this last week. This might not be relevant to you, though.Bx

thanks for the replys

Hi All, Thanks for the info. After things settle down a little I will look into some hormone testing. It does seem to be easing up some but that happened before and it started all over again. I never feel hot and I get chilled from being all wet!

I just read somewhere (can't remember where - chemo brain?) that St. Johns Wort is good for women with breast cancer suffering from night sweats. I want to say it was a clinical trial at clinical trials.gov

It's probably perimenopause. And the blood test might not be accurate. Mine wasn't because mine said i was fine but had been having hot flashes for about four years. Now I find that those were really just warm flashes since chemo put me into real menopause. People can even tell by looking at me now when I'm having one.
