				Lung Nodules-good news

Greetings to everyone. I have some good news to report. When I went to my chemo appt. last Thursday I was told by the clinical trial nurse, oncology nurse and my doctor that my 2 lung nodules could no longer be seen on the ct scan. I was so glad!! There was a small density in the pleural lower lung -saw it in the report, but my doctor did not mention it..hope it is nothing. I do worry about more recurrences though--I will have another Muga soon and Pet scan. Happy for now! My Navelbine is being decreeased but will continue on with Xelodaand Herceptin, too. Do you ever stop chemo when you are Stage IV?? Ceesun

When my lung nodules cleared up, I immediately was take off the Taxotere and Xeloda. This was after the minimum 5 rounds of treatment. But I have been on Herceptin weekly ever since. My Oncologist was talking about switching me from Herceptin to Tykerb when it came out, but I wouldn't mind being on both...he's OK with that also. I think most stage IV's stay on some sort of chemo, even if it is just targeted...sherryg683

		 Congratulations on your good news!

My doctor believes in chemo holidays - particularly if you have Herceptin to keep things stable. When she first told me this, I freaked because I thought we stage IV-ers needed to be on constant chemo.

I'm now a firm believer in the less chemo, the better - so much of our ability to heal and fight this disease depends on us having the "resources" (as she put it) to stay in the fight. Chemo holidays give you the chance to strengthen your resources for the next battle.

Besides, you get a "new hair" day!

Keep up the good work!
Chris

Dear Sherry: My onc mentined Tykerb, (not available at Kaiser for now), and said that if I needed to be put on tykerb, he will never discontinue Herceptin..He said that the consensus among oncgs. is that herceptin will continue working regardless of what chemo is added to it..herceptin helps chemo to work better against the tumor, no one knows why, but the results shows that's the case, especially for mets to any organ(s) in the body. So I won't discontinue Herceptin, unless there is some information to the contrary. Stay positive..

thanks to you girlfriends! Hope all goes well for all of us. My current treatment is herceptin with navelbine and xeloda. This is part of a clinical trial my doc recommended. He is decreasing the navelbine by around 20% I think due to some numbness in my fingers-dropping keys, spoons, pens at work etc. Perhaps also due to the scan--will check on that next week.
