new mono ?

I posted back toward the first of December about my teenage son having mono. Some of you replied that you'd had it in high school. For those who did, how long were you SICK? His throat still bothers him, he still can't eat a lot (has gone from around 200 lbs to about 150), still just really tired and gets headaches when he's up for very long. He's got no fever or I would definetly take him back to the doc. I couldn't find much about long term on net, just symptoms. Should I be worried, or give it longer?

I had mono in high school, and remember being really sick for about four weeks. After that, I felt really tired for about three months, and that's about how long it took before my mono spot was finally negative again. Hopefully your son will start to feel better soon.

Hi Juanita; my daughter had mono when she was 9, and had recurrent headaches and fevers for months. We took her to a neurologist, and he told us that in a severe case of mono such as our daughter had it could take up to a year for the headaches to finally resolve. I hope your son will recover soon, but don't hesitate to take him to a specialist such as a neuro if you continue to have concerns.

I had mono in college. It lasted a long time. Mine started right after Thanksgiving, but then I relapsed right before xmas because I was overdoing it. He really need to rest and give himself time to recover. Like the others I was tired for several months after.

I was sick with mono back in 1967 (16 yrs old). I had a couple years of sore throats, white tonsils, fatigue, loss of appetite, swollen glands, low-grade fevers, (I think). When they finally tested me for mono, I was so sick, they put me in the hospital for about 3 weeks or so.

Recovery took a long time. Spent 3 months after returning home from the hospital, just laying around; resting. The doc said the only cure was rest, so that's what I did. Slowly I began to regain strength and energy.

I was told the mono could perhaps have a lifetime affect on me. Not sure if it did.......
