lapatinib journey

Hi

My scans were clear. Still have a little skin mets on my chest after the radiation.Ihave started the lapatinib process- fairly new in Australia. the forms have been sent off and I have the consent forms to sign- should be about 2 weeks . I am so hoping it will work - its been so long ( 4 years of continual chemo and 1 year of open skin mets on my chest.)

love
linda

Good luck with everything Linda. It does take time and lots of frustrations.

Hi Linda,

I am glad to hear that your scans were clear. I know it was hard to wait for the news. You have been really strong to be going through chemo for 4 years. I hope you new treatment goes well! Best wishes.

Hi Linda: I am happy to hear you will soon get the Tykerb. Are you taking it with Xeloda? Its either Xeloda or Herceptin until it is released then it has to be given with one of these. I had to use Xeloda. I can tell you for me it worked very fast! I knew within the first cycle of two weeks it was working. I hope this is encouraging for you. I wish the same for you! hugs, Sandy

How did you know?

Dear Sandy,

How did you know the xeloda and tykerb were working? How
long did you take it? What were the side effects? I'm taking xeloda right now and waiting to hear if I can be on tykerb/xeloda study.

Melissa, the skin mets were very visualable on my chest (the oncologist took a picture at time I started treatment) during the first cycle (2 wks of xeloda) I knew it was working. At the 9th. day I had severe diarrhea so stopped the xeloda for 12 days and decreased the dose. My skin mets still continued to disappear even though I was not taking the xeloda with the Tykerb. I wonder what the Tykerb would do without the xeloda? I have to be careful what I eat because my mouth is very sensitive. I am unable to eat tomatoes, apples, apples sauce oranges, drink orange juice apple juice, grape juice most any fruits is out. No Pasta with tomatoe sauce or pizza. Makes it hard if I want to go out to eat-no salads or raw vegies. Soft foods are best-no hot spices. Sounds rough but still better then the hard core chemo-taxol. I hope this helps. I think you will do well. hugs, Sandy
