I've enthusiastically mentioned drug approvals to my oncologists and his opinion: its too expensive - that is shocking and scaring. But I agreed with the point of cost for extending life a few months with the serious side effects that significantly diminish quality of life.
I wonder about CLL - the functional test approval doubled the lifespan and added another year. Plus a new drug approval, but I don't know the cost.
I look forward to seeing the next big thing for our cancer - but is 'the cure' only for the very rich & the very poor. The rest of us could be out of luck.

What I appreciated was the cancer docs finally digging in and saying, "No Mas!" Especially when it shows that the approach works in getting the costs reduced. The disappointment was the observation that developing drugs that only provide incremental additional survival in combination with older drugs has become the business model. If we are paying all this money to justify the drug companies' r&d costs, we should expect them to swing for the fences at least part of the time, instead of constantly bunting.
