Dear friends
Please help me. Haven't been having any treatment for 8 weeks - waiting for Lapatinib to be allowed for me. Didn't get it, got Femara on its own. Started 10 days ago.
All that time my CA been stadily rising. And now my blood test, which was fine, show change in LFT. ALT and Alkaline Prosphotase increased greatly ( Bilirubin, etc. are normal).I know Alk. Pros. may be connected to my bones problem - don't care much. It's ALT that worries me. Is it definite sign of cancer progression or may be an other reason? I tried Google without much success.
I appriciate any response. You amazing fighters always give me strength and hope.
Be blessed
Galina

Galina,
This link from National Library of Medicine explains what ALT is:

Looks like they are just checking on your liver function.

It is really hard to know. Some liver function tests reflect changes as a result of chemo. I don't know if ALT is one or if Femara can be responsible for the change. Tests aside I hope you are feeling well. Wishing you the best.

Jackie and Trish, thank you for your kind replies. I know it doesn't look good, but yes Trish I feel well, just terrified.
Next week CT scan will have the answer.
Thank you again for your support.

Hi all
Just let you know, the cause of elevated LFT had apparently not much to do with ca. I've been experimenting with some supplements while waiting for treatment. One of them I suspected could affect those figures and when I stoped taking it four days ago they just dropped.
Don't know what CT will show it's still sort of relief for now, thank God.
With love

What supplement(s)?

The supplement is Rhodiola Rosea. It was really good from the start. With the help of RR I
1. was able to drop antidepressants I been taking for 9 mns.
2.my arthritis I been having for ages and which become very bad from all my treatment - just gone.
3.generally I felt really well, like never before.
It was said RR help in case of liver cancer.I took a risk as I hate to do nothing when something should be done as I haven't been having any treatment for weeks.
The fact that RR affected my LFT (and probably made ca in my liver worse - CT will show) I think is down to hormons. My ca is ER+++, and there is strong connection between RR and hormons as said it improves sex life( last thing I would think of in my situation).
It just shows we have to be very careful using those good supplements as they might give unwanted side effects depending on individual case.
Thank you for your kind replies.

Just to say I probably was wrong blaming RR, as blood test today shows ALT still increasing.
I'm taking Femara as well and so many factors might possibly affect those results that difficult to say which one is real cause.

Have you told your doctor about RR?

I had no chance yet, but from my past experience he wasn't interested in supplements I'm taking and haven't heard of RR when I tried to ask him before.

Vera,
Haven't heard from you since October. Wondered how you are doing. Have you tried other combination after Zometa?
