I had my bilateral mastectomy a couple of weeks ago after neoadjuvant chemo. The pathology report was mixed, showing on the positive side no tumor left in the breast tissue itself (and clear margins) but a lot of lymphatic invasion still present with 10 nodes positive (and this after a barrage of chemo!) I had one cycle of Herceptin before my surgery (to be continued for a year).

Because of the lymphatic presence and the aggressiveness of my tumor, my oncologist is thinking about adding Xeloda daily throughout my radiation treatments. Has anyone done that before? If so, was it worth it? How were the side effects? I'm not familiar with Xeloda, so any info you have will be much appreciated!

Thanks!!!

Marcia

Hi Marcia

I did not have Xeloda during rads but a friend from my local support group did. Initially, she had masectomy and chemo but got a local recurrence on the scar line later. She took 1000 mg Xeloda daily with rads. It intensified side effects - notably burning.

It does give a boost to the rads. So does Herceptin.
