Dear Friends:

As some of you may have noticed, Pink Girl is nearing her 1000th post which means she is really dedicated to the HER2 community or she needs a hobby. Personally, I think she is that dedicated.

To commemorate the occasion, I propose that we start the Pink Girl free association game. Each person reads the word from the previous poster, and then writes down the first thing that comes into their mind. It might be easier if you write the word in bold caps so it is easier to find. If it a real derailment of the train of thought, you might want to explain why you came up with the word you did.

I'll start off:

Pink

obviously because it is Pink Girl's commemorative thread.

Pie ---> contest

(I was chosen to represent the girls' side of our summer camp in a pie eating contest when I was 11. The boy's side had to choose their biggest and fastest eater out of more than a hundred boys. Our counselor led me to the ring where I was dismayed to see that the boy who had been chosen was none other than my brother, the bottomless pit, having his hands tied behind his back for the competition. I managed to beat him by deviously plunging my entire face into my banana cream pie and lessening the actual amount I had to ingest (Thank goodness for all that Farrah Fawcett hair!). Neither of us had banana cream pie for close to three decades after that.

Colleen is at day 6 after TCH today. It has been a whole lot easier than TAC. The word association is probably because this round is going so much better and I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall.

(Aside to Brenda: Zoloft vs. thorazine? LOL. Actually it's the difference between those scratchy canvas wrist restraints and the softer leather ones that you could chew through.)

(Aside to Steph: Okay, it's Mardi Gras. Guess I had fat fingers on that one. The sad part is I take pride in being able to spell.)

(Aside to Catherine: Was that avatar photo taken at the Relay for the Cure thing in Oregon City? The one where the Oregon City mayor blathered on so long that the cancer survivors were keeling over in the hot sun? Colleen was there, it would have been neat if you two could have met.)

Leon Redbone was a ragtime musician who had a tuba player. Makes you wonder what happens to tuba players after they are no longer in their marching band.

PinkGirl

I think about that all the time Lee.

Colleens_Husband
08-27-2008, 09:09 AM
Pink Girl:

And you should think about that all the time. Tuba players practice their instruments as hard as anyone else. They buy an expensive tuba. They work their way through highschool, playing in the marching band at halftime where only their parents watch, everyone else going to one of the two restrooms to take a pee. If they are good, they go to college and march in the band, lugging a heavy tuba around, which only gets heavier as it fills with spit, with only their parents in the stand, everyone else going to one of four restrooms to take a pee. And when they graduate, they get to compete for one of the two professional tuba jobs in the planet. (There used to be three before Leon Redbone retired.) So they sit in their apartments, alone at night, practicing for the long awaited tuba revival which never comes as their next door neighbors throw shoes against the wall and their downstairs neighbor pounds on his ceiling with a broom handle.

Can you think of anything more bleak and pathetic. Where were these people's parents when they started down this slippery slope?

I'm just saying..........

Sorry for that connection but you guys brought it up! The only college football halftime I got to march in (drums/cymbals) was U of MN vs USC around 1970-71, I think. OJ was playing with USC then and our band director told us to watch him because he'd be great some day. Uhhhh, Mr. Dufault, I think you need to rethink that.

Howdy Doody.....what a geeky looking character he was, but I loved him....I was also fascinated by Little Oscar who rode around in the weiner mobile, which I just saw a month or so ago...probably going to the Joliet Speedway for Nascar

Anyone else have a weiner whistle???

AbbyDawg
09-03-2008, 01:41 AM
Sheila! I still have my little red and yellow Oscar Mayer Weiner whistle that I got around 1959 or so. And a few years ago I met seven of the then twelve remaining Munchkins (left from the cast of about 124). Jerry Maren was the one who traveled with the Weinermobile. And I swore Howdy Doody was alive and I wanted him to be my little brother.

You and I must be sisters!!!! (Did you ever live by Savanna, IL? I went to kindergarten and first grade there.)

Flori:

To get to Oregon City, go to Portland and head due south until you start seeing normal people. It's about 100 miles north of Eugene. It's about 40 minutes from Salem, where Colleen was born and raised.

Oh, and the free association:
