Breast Cancer Symposium to Attract Health Care Professionals From Around the World

SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The 29th Annual Charles A. Coltman, Jr. San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, to be held December 14-17, 2006 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Center, will attract more than 8,000 health care professionals from around the world to focus on breast cancer and new efforts in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The symposium is the leading breast cancer conference in the world and is sponsored by the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC), University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), the San Antonio Cancer Institute (SACI) and Baylor College of Medicine.The San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium attracts academic and private physicians and researchers, as well as other health care professionals focused on curing breast cancer, to discuss and learn about new and late-breaking research including experimental biology, etiology, prevention, diagnosis, and therapy of breast cancer and pre-malignant breast disease, as well as promising information from clinical trials and studies.

Poster and general sessions will be held during the four-day symposium as well as mini-symposia, plenary talks, and a satellite symposium discussing the targeting of certain pathways in the treatment of breast cancer. The symposia will focus on:



* Stroma and Microenvironment * Inflammation and Breast Cancer * Targeting Breast Cancer Angiogenesis * Recent Advances in Breast Cancer Prevention The plenary talks will discuss: * The breast cancer epigenome * Exploiting DNA repair defects in tumors as a therapeutic approach * Micrometastases in the sentinel node: take it or leave itThe satellite symposium will take place after the poster presentation session on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Marriott Rivercenter.

The San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation, through the joint sponsorship of the CTRC and UTHSCSA, to provide continuing medical, pharmaceutical and nursing education.
