Tamoxifem after mets

Hi to all. I am in a dilemna. I have a friend who was diagnosed with BC over 15 years ago. this past week a biopsy showed it came back in her bones thruout her body. Her oncologist is treating it with Tamoxifen. Now I know she is post menopause, she is 63 years old. Why tamoxifen? Have you ever hear of this? She is not her 2+ . Maybe that is why. She will also be given Zometa IV every two weeks.

Yes, this is a reasonable first-line treatment for ERPR positive metastatic breast cancer. Did she take Tamoxifen with the initial diagnosis 15 years ago? That might cause some providers to try a different hormonal treatment choice first. But the thinking here is that it's not an emergency, and there are (right now) a limited number of tools (treatments) in the tool box. It's reasonable to begin with the most easily tolerated tool that can be expected to be effective. May your friend get many years of success from her first tool!
